For equal opportunities in education

L'Oréal signs the Corporate commitment Charter for equal opportunities in education

On December 13th 2006, Jean-Paul Agon, Chief Executive Officer of L’Oréal the "Corporate commitment charter for equal opportunities in education" presented by Gilles de Robien, the French Minister for National & Higher Education and Research.

The aim of the charter is to foster corporate initiatives to promote equal opportunities (coaching, sponsorship, creation of scholarships, support classes, etc.) in the educational establishments of sensitive areas and priority education zones.

The signing of the charter is a major commitment for L’Oréal, already actively involved at grassroots level in education and the placement of young people from disadvantaged areas.

L’Oréal is thus an integral part of the "Experimental Secondary Schools" programme launched in 2006-2007. The group is setting up partnerships with a number of secondary schools, leading to programmes similar to those introduced at the Lycée Auguste Blanqui in Saint Ouen near Paris since 2005. Group employees have thus made presentations to sixth form classes about the company, its professions and its products.

For L'Oréal, furthermore, apprenticeship schemes are an outstanding source of exchanges and an excellent way of recruiting the talents of tomorrow in a new and different way. Since 1993, 2,250 apprentices have joined the group, at all academic levels and in all types of professional activity. This year, apprentices represent 3.69% of the workforce, which means L'Oréal easily exceeds the targets set by the law for the end of 2006 (1% of the workforce for companies with more than 250 employees).

"At L’Oréal, we believe in the virtue of difference and diversity as a source of a richer life experience. We are actively committed on a daily basis to training young people, with a determination that everyone should have the same opportunities for success in their future professional life", stresses Jean-Paul Agon, Chief Executive Officer of L’Oréal.

L’Oréal has also set in motion significant actions in higher education. A supporter from the outset in 2001 of the Priority Education Agreements of the Institut d’Etudes Politiques in Paris, L’Oréal takes on students for training courses inside and outside France, provides annual financial aid for the purchase of class books, and has hired several trainees and a young graduate from the first graduating year in 2006.

To help with the professional placement of young people from sensitive areas, L’Oréal has set up several partnerships with associations (IMS-Institut de Mécénat et de Solidarité, Afip, Afij, etc.) and employment search consultants (Alter Ego, APC Recrutement, etc.). L'Oréal's initiative in partnership with IMS for the launch of the First "Employment and Diversity" Forum at Aulnay-sous-Bois in February 2006, with the participation of 16 major companies, led to the recruitment of 19 young graduates (with a high school diploma plus four or five years of studies) from sensitive areas.

The 2nd "Employment and Diversity" Forum at Aulnay-sous-Bois (Paris suburbs) will be held on March 6th 2007.
