Revamping production to save water

In 2020, L’Oréal entered a new phase in its approach to sustainable development which aims to accelerate its internal transformation and guarantee the compatibility of its business with the finite nature of the planet’s resources. The Group has set 2030 goals for climate change, water use, biodiversity protection and natural resource management. The Professional Products Division production sites fully adhere to the programme. For example, 95% of Division products manufactured in Europe come from waterloop plants where all of the water used for utilities (cleaning equipment, steam production, etc.) is recycled or reused in a loop on site. The Burgos plant in Spain, where 41% of products are manufactured, was the first plant to adopt this approach.

More environmentally friendly products

L’Oréal has gladly committed to pursuing the transition to a low-carbon economy. With this in mind, 85% of Professional Products manufacturing is located in the regions where the products are sold, to reduce transport. 85% of units produced worldwide are manufactured in carbon neutral plants.

As for plastic use, 24% of the Division’s packaging is made using recycled plastic. Matrix and Redken have even achieved 100% recycled plastic in their shampoo and conditioner bottles. The Division is fully committed to the goals set by the Group, which aims to reach 100% recycled or bio-sourced plastic use by 2030.
