Annual Consolidated Sales 1999

The consolidated sales of L'OREAL worldwide amounted, in 1999, to FF 70.5 billion (EUR 10.7 billion). Sales growth was 12.1% against 1998 on published pro forma figures, i.e. excluding Synthélabo which merged with Sanofi in 1999.

Sales growth amounted to 11.7%, excluding the 0.4% positive currency effects.

L'OREAL benefited from a positive structural impact of 0.4% due to the consolidation of cosmetics and dermatology subsidiaries on the American continent.

On a like-for-like basis, i.e. with same structure and exchange rates, group sales growth was 11.3% at the end of 1999 compared with 10.6% in 1998 excluding Synthélabo.

The breakdown of cosmetics sales last year by main geographical area was as follows : 56.1 % in Western Europe, 27.1 % in North America, and 16.8 % in the rest of the world.

On a like-for-like basis, growth in cosmetics sales was higher than the previous year : 11 % in 1999 compared with 10.6 % in 1998. Cosmetics sales grew strongly in the main areas :

Based on preliminary estimates, consolidated results are in line with the trends announced by Mr. Lindsay OWEN-JONES, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, in October 1999. They will be published on February the 23rd, 2000.
