Women4Climate: enlisting women in the cause

L’Oréal is a founding partner of the Women4Climate initiative, which aims to support future generations of women committed to developing solutions to limit the impact of climate change.

The Women4Climate initiative was launched in March 2017 by C40 Cities, an international network uniting 90 major cities and metropolitan areas across the globe in their efforts to fight climate change. C40 Cities represents over 650 million people and a quarter of the global economy. With this mentoring initiative, the network aims to support and train women from diverse fields (business, government, academia and civil society) as they develop local solutions aimed at limiting the impact of global warming.

L’Oréal: a founding partner

L’Oréal joined this global initiative as a founding partner. In each C40 city that joins the Women4Climate programme, L’Oréal mobilises women leaders from the Group to mentor young women selected locally. They help these women develop their projects and strengthen their leadership abilities. Partnerships are already underway in Mexico City and Paris: Chief Corporate Responsibility Officer and Senior Vice-President of the L’Oréal Corporate Foundation Alexandra Palt mentors Fanny Gianseto, founder of Ecotable, a company that has developed a certification for restaurants that engage in sustainable development practices. Barbara Lavernos, Executive Vice-President of Operations, advises and mentors two designers: Camille Chardayre and Amandine Langlois. The duo created “PierrePlume”, a wall covering made from recycled materials that combines aesthetics and improved acoustics.

Doing our part alongside the mayors of the C40 Cities to support the future generation of women leaders in the fight against climate change is fundamental as we aim to reach our goals in terms of gender equality and climate protection. Women play a major role in the fight against global warming. It is our responsibility to help and support them.

Alexandra Palt

Chief Corporate Responsibility Officer
